Acrilic and ink

This is an old piece of work given a digital face lift.

For anyone who might be interested the textures on the dino and the sun are done using acrylic medium.

Very tempting. :D

You could always square it up and copy it, but then again I'm sure you will have lots of great ideas of your own. :)

When I first saw the thumb, I thought someone (or something) had thrown the little dino a ball to catch; but then I discovered it was the sun instead :D. It's probably best to play "catch" with a dog anyway. This would make a cute page in a pop-up book.

Interesting that you say it would look good in a pop-up book because that's just what it was intended for. It was a preliminary/speculative pic to present the idea for the book to a publisher. The book was published as "Roarasaurus" :D

I just now looked up "Roarasaurus" on Amazon [link] and thought perhaps you'd slipped a little gold between the pages -- the New ones were being marketed for $150 to $187! There was, however, a "very good condition" Collectible book for $20 although the jacket was missing, and some cheaper Used ones. The Amazon link includes a cute photo of the little dinosaur from inside the book along with the picture of the cover. The problem with buying used pop-up books, the kids pretty well wear them out before they give them up for resale and the pop-ups get a little pooped :). But I can't blame the kids. I've always loved pop-up books; certainly something you can't get on a CD or a Kindle :D.

There are two links for your books on the US Amazon, one a "Hardcover" and the more expensive ones listed under "Paperback." I don't think I've ever seen a paperback version of a pop-up book, so do they have their information correct?

There's another book on the market called "Bedtime Buddy: Roarasaurus Loves Buddies (a Bath Book)," an 8-page cloth book by Joanna Bicknell, a UK author. It comes with a matching "soft toy comforter." The artwork definitely does not look like your style, so I'm going to assume that she just borrowed your Roarasaurus name.

Anyway, your book looks cute. It must be fun doing children's books; keeps you young at heart :).

I checked out your Amazon link and that high price gave me a laugh. The second hand book dealers really do try it on sometimes. My own favorite site for second hand books is www.abebooks.com. They sell some of my old books for one dollar but I also saw a couple of my fairytale books priced at something like a thousand dollars.Well it's worth a try I suppose, as they say "there's one born every minute" :D
I think that soft cover thing is a misdescription, soft cover pop up books just wouldn't work.I think Joanna Bicknell as probably taken my title "Roarasaurus by coincidence, these things happen and in any case I don't think it's possible to copyright a title.
By the way, maybe you noticed that my little dino changed in style by the time it made it into a book. It became more plastic looking wich as far as I was concerned was a mistake but the publisher asked for me to make that change.

"Young at heart" well I hope so. it would be nice if that extended to the rest of me. :D

The dino appeared to me to be covered in velveteen, rather than in plastic :), but then who ever heard of a velveteen dinosaur? :)

I need to replace my Little Merlin's Book of Magical Pets with one that isn't missing Pegasus's wing. It's available on Amazon for about $14. I think that is a great book; I love your whimsical creatures. Your books at abebooks.com certainly sound like they got a bunch of use in their lifetimes, and that's perfect! It tells you how much your target audience spends with your books. Better to be that way than have all your books selling in pristine condition!;)

Thanks very much. I think collage is a a nice way to produce illustration, in that it allows for moving the various cut paper elements around and chopping and changing them before sticking them down. It's fun. :)

Oh yeah, I guess it is a good way to make sure everything looks okay before gluing it. What did you do to this for the facelift?

That's right.

Well it looked kind of dull and messy. I increased the contrast here and there, rearranged some of the grass which didn't quite work, and put in the pink sky in place of a white one. I originally designed this picture as a book illustration and intended it to be seen with text, I changed it so that it would make a better stand alone image.
